Concrete Repairs to Leaking Cooling Tower Basin

Rapid Concrete Repairs & Waterproofing of Cooling Tower Basin

Background

WindMark Beach is a 2,020 acre residential and resort community in the historic town of Port St Joe located in Northwest Florida, which has been carefully designed to compliment and respond to its coastal environment and over 1,000 acres of the community are placed in conservation.

Leaks were found on the cooling tower basin located at this resort, caused by vibration during running.

The Solution

Cemprotec Elastic, a cementitious modified, polymer rich coating which maintains its elastomeric properties was chosen as not only is it ideally suited for waterproofing and protecting concrete structures which are exhibiting cracking and where further movement is expected, but also because of its performance history in contact with water chlorine applications. Following some additional repairs using Fastfill, a rapid setting repair mortar, Cemprotec Elastic, with reinforcing mesh Cemprotec Scrim embedded, was applied to aid waterproofing and to protect the “live” cracks of the concrete of the basin. A second coat of Cemprotec Elastic was applied, when the first coat was stable.
