Background
Westminster City school is a non-diocesan, voluntary aided, all ability school, which has been situated in the Victoria area of London since 1877.
As part of Westminster City Council’s £152 million investment in the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) Programme, the school obtained permission to demolish two existing Victorian properties to build two new blocks housing sports, ICT and music facilities together with a new administration unit. A system was required to completely prevent water penetration through the sheet pile walls and concrete floors of the interconnected basements.
The Solution
Waterproofing contractor, 5M Construction, recommended the use of Flexcrete’s range of EN 1504-2 two component cement and epoxy modified polymer waterproof coatings to keep the programme on schedule. Cemprotec Clutch Filler and Cemprotec E942 were used to waterproof the joints in the sheet piles, whilst Cemprotec E-Floor was applied directly to the lean mix, base slab. The products are water based and can resist 10 bar hydrostatic head (100m head of water) with a long and successful track record of use in basements.
