Decorative coating for external walls covering an area spanning 330m².
Background
New Taipei is the most populous city in Taiwan and has a monsoon-influenced subtropical climate. Summers are hot and humid and accompanied by heavy rainstorms and typhoons, whilst winters are short, mild and very foggy. Taiwan is located in a seismically active zone and the area is prone to earthquakes and earth tremors.
When the owners of this residential building were seeking to refurbish its external walls, they were seeking a long-lasting coating which would be flexible enough to withstand potential earthquake damage without cracking or flaking, whilst remaining waterproof and aesthetic in appearance.
The Solution
Biodex HB, a high build, flexible, water-based biostatic coating with a matt finish, was chosen for application to the exterior walls of this building due to its proven ability to provide attractive protection against the elements for many years. As it remains permanently elastomeric throughout its long life span, it will withstand both thermal and structural movement and offers exceptional protection against damage from earth tremors.
As Biodex HB incorporates encapsulated biocide and silver ion technology, it has inherent protection from biofilm attack with effective resistance to mould and fungal growth, maintaining a bright, clean appearance throughout its design life. It offers exceptional weatherproof protection even in conditions of high humidity and extreme temperatures, and is vapour permeable, allowing substrate moisture to escape without causing delamination.
Biodex HB has a waterborne formulation so it is completely safe to use, as it is totally non-toxic, non-leaching and non-tainting. It is available in a range of attractive colours, of which white was chosen for this project.
