Structural Waterproofing
Finding the Right Structural Waterproofing Solution
With rising water tables around the world, there is increased demand for reliable waterproofing of basements, tunnels and other underground structures, many of which were not originally designed to resist water infiltration. Post construction underground structural waterproofing can prove difficult and costly, but Flexcrete’s thin film cementitious coatings provide the ideal, long-term, cost-effective solution.
Solutions for New Build & Remedial Projects
For both refurbishment and new build works, Flexcrete offers a wide range of impermeable, sulphate resistant, cementitious coatings for structural waterproofing of below ground and water retaining structures. Our structural waterproofing range includes mortars and coatings that are Regulation 31 approved by the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) for use in contact with potable water. Able to be applied to damp surfaces, they resist both positive and negative water infiltration at pressures up to 10 bar. With water-based, non-hazardous formulations, they rapidly cure without the release of strong odour or hazardous solvents. Furthermore, our products are ideal for sealing secondary containment facilities or bunds to eradicate the possibility of aggressive substances leaking from storage tanks and silos into groundwater.

Waterproof deck protection, which extends beyond internal floors to include roofs, balconies, walkways, stairwells and car parks, has been one of our core market areas for many years.
Flexcrete’s unique epoxy and cementitious modified polymer coatings offer years of effective resistance to abrasion, water ingress, chloride ion penetration and aggressive chemicals in areas subject to extreme trafficking, including loading bays.
Applied to saturated concrete, these coatings are impermeable to water under 10 bar pressure and cure rapidly to withstand foot traffic just six hours after application. Excellent freeze-thaw resistance prevents spalling of the concrete surface. Furthermore, when used internally as a levelling waterproof layer on damp substrates, resin, sheet vinyl or carpet flooring can be installed without waiting 28 days for concrete to cure.

Structural Waterproofing Problems and Solutions
- Water Ingress
- Osmotic Blistering
The Problem
Damp or leaking basements and underground structures need structural waterproofing to prevent damage to fixtures and fittings. The high cost of land encourages the use of below-ground structures which may often be below the water table.
The Solution
Both brick and concrete substrates can be waterproofed by the application of two 1mm coats of Cementitious Coating 851.
Active water infiltration under pressure can be quickly arrested using Fastfill WP.
Where pointing requires reinstating, or a fair-faced, waterproof render is required then Monolevel 844SP can be used in thicknesses up to 6mm per layer.
The Problem
Treatment of damp or freshly laid concrete floors without the risk of osmotic blistering when impervious finishes are subsequently applied.
The Solution
Cemprotec E-Floor is applied to prepared concrete floors that have been primed with Cemprotec EF Primer. It is spread to a minimum 2mm thickness and cured with silica sand. This has the dual benefit of providing a slip resistant finish where required, and assisting the adhesion of any coatings that may be subsequently applied.
Only 48 hours curing is required before Impervious floor coatings and finishes can be laid.
Where a stand-alone system is required, the sanded surface can be sealed with Cemprotec Sandseal 75 to enhance longevity.
