When a high performance hygienic coating was required for the refurbishment of the walls and ceilings in the car wash booths at a number of Q-Parks in Sweden, it was important that the chosen product could provide a long-lasting, seamless, easy clean finish and be able to withstand high humidity, steam cleaning and permanently wet conditions without deterioration.
Q-Park is an international off-street parking company which offers parking facilities at strategic locations. The main focus lies within urban parking, parking at public transport interchanges and parking at hospitals. The company operates in many European countries and each car park is equipped with a unique set of convenient services, including car wash facilities, electric car charging points, jump starters, shoe shines and even alcohol testers.
Flexcrete’s Biodex Sheen biostatic coating was chosen by Q-Park as it could be applied directly over the existing substrate and offered superior performance over many competitors’ products. Being water-based, it is non-toxic and releases no hazardous solvents or heavy odour during application so could be safely applied in this public environment. Q-Park is a socially responsible company and one of its objectives is to improve the environmental performance of its parking facilities, so the hazard-free nature of Biodex Sheen was an attractive proposition. Developed using state-of-the-art silver ion technology, Biodex Sheen incorporates active in-film protection against the growth of micro-organisms to ensure a hygienic finish. Biodex Sheen also has outstanding water vapour permeability – a vital consideration in this project as the coating could be applied in the damp environment. Throughout its lifespan Biodex Sheen prevents water ingress, is highly elastomeric and can withstand thermal and structural movement without cracking, flaking or splitting.
