Concrete Waterproofing Solution for Swimming Pool

Waterproofing and chemically resistant coating of overflow channel and balancing tanks.

Background

The new swimming pool complex at Formby comprises two pools, the main full size pool and a smaller, children’s pool.

The two pools are surrounded by a concrete overflow channel, from which the overflow water from the pools is channelled into concrete balancing tanks situated below the two pools. From these tanks, the water is pumped back into the swimming pools.

The Solution

The Client was anxious to ensure that no leakages occurred in both the overflow channel and the balancing tanks. Cementitious Coating 851 was chosen as the internal waterproofing system due to its ability to withstand high hydrostatic pressure (up to 10 bar), its ease of application in confined areas onto damp substrates and its chemical resistance. Monolevel 844SP was used in the overflow channels to provide a fair-faced finish to the concrete substrate before the application of the coating.
