Concrete Waterproofing at GAP Store in London

One of our cementitious coatings has been used for the refurbishment of the underground areas of one of GAP’s flagship stores in the heart of London’s West End.

GAP is one of the world’s most well-known retail brands, offering clothing and accessories for men, women and children from stores all around the world. Originally founded in 1969 with just one outlet in San Francisco, the company now has over 3,500 stores worldwide, 134,000 employees globally and annual revenues of US$16 billion.

As part of refurbishment of the underground areas of GAP’s store in Piccadilly Circus, a caltite concrete slab was installed in the basement, however a waterproofing solution was also required for application to the internal brickwork walls in order to provide a full tanking system.

Cementitious Coating 851, a two component, cementitious modified polymer coating, was chosen for application to the brickwork walls due to its exceptional waterproofing properties, being able to resist 10 bar positive and negative pressure. It also protects substrates from the effects of aggressive acid gases, moisture, chlorides and chemicals. Particularly suited for application to below ground structures, Cementitious Coating 851 is rapidly and easily applied by brush, trowel or spray in two coats. It maintains excellent adhesion in damp environments and due to its water-based, non-toxic composition, can be safely applied in enclosed areas without the release of hazardous solvents or heavy odour.

Cementitious Coating 851 is rapid curing and minimal curing is required between coats, allowing work to be carried out on a fast-track basis. It is also CE marked in accordance with the demands of BS EN 1504 and is certified by the British Board of Agrément (BBA), so can be relied upon with absolute confidence.

The work was carried out on behalf of Land Securities. The main contractor was Keltbray Group Ltd and Concrete Remedial Systems Ltd applied Flexcrete products.
