Enhancing strength of newly poured concrete mezzanine floor.
Background
Ark design, construct and operate data centres on behalf of the company’s clients. Spring Park is a 38 acre, secure campus housing two new build operational data centres with access to 120 MVA diverse power supply. Located in Corsham near to Junction 17 of the M4 between Swindon and Bristol, the site is adjacent to secure MoD facilities and benefits from significant connectivity infrastructure.
Spring Park has its own dedicated substation and the campus has diverse concrete-encased secure multiple conduits. During construction of one of the data centres, the concrete mezzanine floor was poured, however there were concerns about the concrete sagging. This needed to be resolved due to the considerable weight of the data equipment being placed on the concrete floor.
The Solution
Monomix HD, an exceptionally high strength, class R4, waterproof cementitious mortar, was used to enhance the durability of the poured concrete floor and to assist with bringing the floor up to the required levels in the form of a plinth. A pre-packaged, single component product which simply requires the addition of water on-site, Monomix HD is rapid hardening and quickly develops key physical properties to ensure a high bond exceeding the tensile strength of concrete.
With excellent abrasion resistance and high diffusion resistance to acid gases and chloride ions, Monomix HD is a repair mortar that can be easily trowelled to thicknesses of up to 80mm in a single application. It can be used for application to vertical, horizontal and overhead surfaces, is suitable for both new build and repair work and has excellent low-sag properties. It is also CE marked in accordance with the demands of BS EN 1504, the pan European standard for concrete repair.
