Hygienic Coating for Internal Walls of Pharmaceutical Plant

Hygienic Coating for Internal Walls of Pharmaceutical Plant

Our hygiene coatings are used for the structural protection of hygiene sensitive environments all around the world and one of our latest projects has seen our Biodex HB coating used at a leading pharmaceutical plant in Belarus.

Biodex HB, a waterborne, anti-microbial coating, was specified for application to internal walls and ceilings at the PharmLand plant in Nesvizh, Belarus. PharmLand is one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in Belarus. A Belarusian-Dutch joint venture, the company manufactures a range of pharmaceutical products sold throughout Belarus, the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan. Biodex HB was supplied by our distributor in the Czech Republic, Corro Bohemia.

PharmLand produces several different types of tablets, medicine, medical supplies and diagnostic kits for clinical laboratory diagnosis of infectious diseases, cancer and neonatal screening. The company’s primary tasks are to develop innovative new pharmaceutical products and to improve the quality control of existing drugs. PharmLand’s pharmaceutical plant in Nesvizh is equipped with the latest laboratory equipment and a hygienic coating was sought for the decorative protection of the internal walls and ceilings. It was important that the chosen coating would enable the premises to be maintained in a hygienic condition, as pharmaceutical products can be adversely affected even if negligible levels of micro-organisms are present.

Biodex HB was chosen due to its ability to actively combat the growth of bacteria, mould and yeasts. Formulated using state-of-the-art silver ion technology combined with the latest generation biocide technology, Biodex HB incorporates active in-film anti-microbial protection, allowing for the ultra-slow controlled release of active ingredients into the coating film throughout its long life span.

The waterborne nature of Biodex HB was an important consideration for this application, as the coating is low odour, non-tainting and non-hazardous with ultra low volatile organic content (VOC), so there was no threat of contamination from solvents or strong odour. Rapidly and easily applied by brush, roller or airless spray, Biodex HB provides a seamless finish with no joints or irregularities in which bacteria can otherwise thrive. With a durable, easy clean finish much thicker than conventional paints, Biodex HB can withstand intense cleaning regimes and extreme temperature changes without impaired performance or cracking. The coating is available in a range of attractive colours, including special colours, and white was chosen for this project.
